The Major Factors in A Successful Alcohol Addiction Intervention

August 2nd, 2009

What are the most important elements in an effective alcohol intervention? Why do some alcohol abuse interventions succeed as planned while quite a few fail?

Scientific inquiry displays that a successful alcohol abuse intervention needs to be conducted by an intervention specialist who has an established track record of intervention accomplishment.

Essentially this means that rather than opting for an “everyday” addiction therapist or psychologist for an addiction intervention, the individual who is hand picked to conduct the intervention needs to be educated in drug addiction intervention procedures and needs to exhibit a track record of fruitful alcohol dependency interventions.

Scientific examination has also made evident the fact that the most worthwhile time for an alcoholism intervention is following a meaningful event in the life of the alcohol addicted person or hazardous drinker. The following represents a few illustrations of these types of special happenings:

1946 Filmstrip for Teenagers About Alcohol & Alcoholism

July 25th, 2009

Where Does it Get You? is a classic educational alcohol video from the 1940's. The effects of alcohol and facts about alcohol are the film's subject matter. But what makes the film interesting is the opportunity it affords viewers to see how alcohol and alcohol abuse were perceived and treated in the mid 20th century. Featuring campy dated diagrams and science, the effects of alcohol and alcoholism are teased out by a detailed explanation about how the body receives and processes different blood alcohol levels. Sobriety is encouraged (of course), but the film also stresses that alcohol impairs one's ability to function as a healthy good American citizen. Drinking can be an embarrassment. This film is a fun way to enjoy the history of alcohol consumption and substance abuse in general, as well as American culture.

Alcohol Relapse and When Dishonesty is a Form of Enabling

June 28th, 2009

It is worthy of note to articulate something that family members who have been negatively affected by the alcoholism of another family member clearly do not understand. It appears that by shielding the alcohol dependent person with lies and deceitfulness to those outside the family, these well-intentioned family members have in reality created a circumstance that makes it easier for the alcohol dependent person to continue and go forward with his or her negative, detrimental way of living.

In fact, rather than helping the alcohol addicted person and themselves, these family members have basically become enablers who have inadvertently helped worsen the alcohol addicted individual’s problem drinking situation even further.

Another key alcohol addiction issue involves alcohol relapses. Relapses take place when an alcohol addicted person has effectively gone through alcohol dependency therapy and then returns to drinking a number of weeks or months later. At first thought, this circumstance flies in [...]
